Map view of my galleries...

Slowly I have been building up a map in Google Maps to identify locations of my galleries, or collections. Right now Smugmug allows for geotagging individual photos, which works well for walks and so forth, but doesn't seem as appropriate when I have a gallery of photos of a specific building or other site. I have been creating markers in Google Map and building up a library... Enjoy...

Millenium Bridge, London

Some pictures of the Millenium Bridge in London processed and uploaded...

Once again with the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. What a fun lens. Mild perspective correction on some of them.

Tate Modern redux... with more fiddling with the perspective correction...

I went back and redid the perspective corrections in the pictures from the Tate Modern, again using GIMP... Everything is more straight now...

Lloyds Building, London, May 2009

More London photos, this time of the Lloyd's Building in the City... This is also known as the 'Inside-Out Building' since like the Centre Pompidou in Paris, much of the ducting and pipes and so forth are visible from outside.

This is one of the many occasions in London where having the superwide Tokina 11-16 on my Canon 20D came in very handy, given the tightness of the streets. For post-processing, I also made heavy use of the perspective correction in GIMP. I just wish I could figure out how to get rid of lens flare in post-processing... Any suggestions would be appreciated...

This will be it for today since I have to go run some errands, but there will be more coming in a few days...

30 St. Mary Axe aka the Gherkin, London, May 2009

Still working my way through my London photos... today some shots of Norman Foster's recent contribution to the London skyline, the Gherkin, or 30 St. Mary Axe. Thank goodness I had my wide angle Tokina 11-16 with me.

Hyde Park, London, May 2009

I already processed and posted my photos from the Rose Garden at Hyde Park, finally this evening I had a little more free time and I processed the rest of my Hyde Park photos and uploaded them. The weather in London was absolutely beautiful and of course the park is quite charming.

Rose Garden at Hyde Park, London, May 2009

I spent the weekend in London. I was lucky to get a very good rate on a room at the Intercontinental in Hyde Park. I arrived Saturday morning before my room was ready so I dropped off my bags and wandered around in the Park. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm like you would expect in LA. I ended up taking a lot of pictures in the Rose Garden, so many that I decided to post them separate from the pictures from other parts of the park:

Most of the shots were either with the 50mm f1.4 or the 17-55 f2.8 IS. I made some initial experiments at f1.4 and so forth but wasn't too happy with the results, because of depth of field problems, so I backed out and mainly shot around f1.8 to f2.8.

Warnemünde, Germany, May 2009

I was recently in Rostock, Germany, which is a quite pleasant port city on the Baltic Sea. People I talked who had been there in the early nineties, right after reunification, described it as pretty grim, but now it seems quite attractive. I didn't have any chance to photograph in Rostock, but I did have some time to visit the nearby beach resort town and ferry terminal Warnemünde. It was accessible by frequent and fast train service. Warnemünde seemed like a very charming town, and had very nice beaches. It was interesting to see how the Germans managed their beach: it was divided into blocks, and there were signs for each block indicating which activities were or were not permitted. So in some areas it was ok to kitesurf, and in others it was verboten.

There was a section of the beach specifically designated as clothing-optional. There was a sign at the boundary that indicated the end of the clothed section of the beach on one side, and indicate the end of the clothing-optional section of the beach on the other side. The clothing optional section was designated as FKK which apparently is the initials of a naturist movement that goes back to the beginning of the twentieth century.

Hate to disappoint you, but it was windy and not very warm when I was there so there weren't that many bathers in general, and even few bathers in their birthday suits, and I wouldn't have photographed them even if they were there. Most of the people out on the beach that day were windsurfing or engaged in other watersports.
