Map view of Nanluoguxiang, combining photos from two galleries

I continued my dabbling in Google Maps. I wanted to see if I could display pushpins from multiple galleries on the same embedded map. As far as I can tell, there is no easy way in smugmug maps of combining specified galleries, and I wanted to see if I could get around this...

I logged in to Google Maps, created a new map under 'My Maps' and imported the KML feeds from my two Nanluoguxiang galleries, one from summer 2007, another from this summer. Then to create an iframe, I did 'customize and preview embedded map' under 'link to this page.' Basically I wanted to see if I could overlay the maps views from separate galleries covering the same location. Seems to work pretty well... Just click on one of the markers to see a thumbnail of the photo and get a link to the photo in the gallery...

Lassen Volcanic National Park, June 2008

Little by little I will be posting announcements of galleries of photos from the trip up north. Today it is Lassen Volcanic National Park. I am experimenting with embedding a Google Map based on the geofeed from the smugmug gallery. There should be a map below of Lake Manzanita, with markers identifying where photos were taken. Clicking on the marker should bring up a little window with a thumbnail of the photo, and a link to the original. Let's see if this works...

Sweet!

Now for the pictures from around Lassen Peak, or at least the first part of the trail going up from the parking lot to the peak...

Sundial Bridge, Redding, California, June 2008

We just came back from a week in northern California. We spent a few days in Redding before heading to the coast. One of the highlights was our visit to the very interesting Sundial Bridge in the Turtle Bay Exploration Park. This is certainly one of the more remarkable and unusual bridge designs that I have seen. The architect is Santiago Calatrava. The bridge is especially spectacular at night, when it is lit up. It invites comparison to the Esplanade Riel in Winnipeg< style="font-style: italic;">My Winnipeg) and which by coincidence I saw last year.

Although I also visited during the day, I took most of my shots at night. You can look at some of my favorite shots from that evening, or the entire gallery.

I liked this shot a lot:
I was pretty pleased with this as well:

Nanluoguxiang, Beijing, June 2008

I just came back from a week in Beijing. I was pretty busy so didn't get much of a chance to shoot pictures. Also this time of the year the sun sets pretty late so if I wanted to shoot a lot of late night pictures I would have had to stay up pretty late. I did spend one evening walking around Nanluoguxiang, a very interesting area not far from Houhai.

Here is the gallery:
